Heritage Farm, 8-14-2018 Cancelled due to storms

Our weekly plein air gathering was cancelled this week due to inclement weather. I went out around 9:30 just in case some showed up, and took the opportunity to grab a few shots of  threatening skies over Heritage Farm in Bolton, CT. Penny came in about 5 minutes later and also grabbed a few photos, but neither of us sat down to paint or sketch. 

Around 10 we both left and within 10 minutes after we left, the skies broke open and rain began to pour down in sheets. There may be a reschedule for this favorite location, but nothing has been decided yet. 



The east coast is under lots of rain and flooding while the west coast is fighting major wildfires. That seems to be the way of extremes in America. 

Next week I believe we are headed to Gay City State Park in Marlborough. As things look right now, we may once again be under stormy skies, but this is Connecticut, and if you don't like the weather just wait a minute. Could be gorgeous and sunny. Won't know until we get there.

Our Tuesday art group met at 9 a.m. at Park Place for our weekly outing. Rockville, CT. is an historic mill town with an old fashioned Main St. and a beautiful green lawn owned by Union Congregational Church. The lawn is a lovely area to meet and greet, and take in some of the architecture that has made Rockville historically significant. Today we had 5 who brought their sketchbooks, pencils and charcoal. None felt the need for canvases and easels today, but any who wish to join in our gatherings can bring whatever they are comfortable with. The Tolland County Art members who added their warmth and social graces were Cathy, Jane, Georgiana, Linda and June. We spent until around 11:30 doing several sketches or just one. Many of us also bring our cameras, so we can capture the scene we might be sketching, in case we wish to take it to a finished painting or drawing. Fair Winds Farm - Aug. 28, 2018

                                                    Courtesy of Ronnie Klukas The TCAA Plein Air artists found their way to Fair Winds Farm this week. TCAA member Sally Balukas shared her Tolland farm with 9 other artists. Her hospitality was greatly appreciated. Sally's attention to artistic detail could be seen in the canoe resting on the pond edge, to the beautiful hibiscus growing amongst goldenrod and joe pye weed. Not only were we treated to lovely sights to paint, but Sally also made a wonderful lemon pound cake, and fresh iced green tea, and lemonade. We had comfy Adirondack chairs to sit in under  the shade of black walnut trees and maples. Our view from the chairs included the small pond, and several barns and outbuildings, as well as Sally's wildflower dotted fields that are home to her two donkey's. Frog Hollow Flower Farm - 7-24-2018

The TCAA artists met today in Ellington, CT. Our hostess, Karyn, runs the farm and has fresh cut flower bouquets for sale. The location is 8 Frog Hollow Rd. It is a wonderful place to get away from the rush of busy lives. To stroll through the gardens with views of farm fields and big sky is to live a piece of Heaven.   Our hostess Karyn with some flowers We gathered on the porch to catch up and have some fresh brewed coffee and blueberry buckle.
