June 4 - Hanging Out In Coventry, CT

Image
What a perfectly sparkling day we had in Coventry for last weeks Tuesday Plein Air group. As we rolled in to 1141 Main St., there were a few visitors that joined our group. Welcome to Sharon and Oren who visited and spent a few hours at their easels. It was a delight to meet you, and thanks to member Laura Kinlock for bringing them to our weekly gathering. Rounding out our weekly outing were Lynn, Paul, Kathy W., Adrianna, Georgiana, Betsy, Linda, Peg and me.  The Coventry Art Guild happened to have a few members out and about as we painted. They invited TCAA to join their paint out that is running until July 31. The summer painting will culminate in a juried plein air show, their first, in August. For those interested, here is the link to find out more and to register if you would like to be informed of when they will be running a group paint out.  Coventry Guild Plein Air summer paint out.   As I searched for a subject to paint, I headed down to the pink ...

May 7 2019 - Heritage Farm In Spring

Welcome to our new season of Plein Air painting. There will be a few new places this year that we have not previously visited, so that should be exciting and inspiring. This is an invitation to all TCAA members to recommend places you would like to paint or draw. Just email me - jmitastudios@gmail.com and I will put it into our summer schedule. Some recommendations when you join us, please think about how much sun may be shining. Hats with wide brims are really good, in case there is little shade. Many of the farms we visit are very open and have a lot of sun exposure. Sun block is always good. Some have purchased easel umbrellas to attach above their heads. These can be pricey but are worth the c...

Heritage Farm -Sept. 4, 2018

Image
Our regular Plein air season ended at Heritage Farm in Bolton, CT. Starting on Sept. 18, we will be taking it inside at Arts of Tolland for our winter open studio. Summer is winding down and nature dresses up with some of her finest colors. The fields are dotted with pinks and yellows. It is the final thrust for our winged helpers to get drinks from asters, goldenrods, and joe pye weeds. The swelled corn is nearing its harvest time, and the field next to the newly painted farmhouse will soon be nothing but stubble. On this day, though, the corn swayed and bent with its golden heads, colors going from shades of pale yellow to dark green. It was a perfect day for capturing the artistic landscape.  Nine of our artists took on the heat and humidity to make their way to this historic farm, a favorite with the TCAA. It has been a great season this year with few Tuesdays cancelled due to weather issues. It has been a wonderful sharing experience, and a break for many of us f...
